Claire E. Martinez

SOUTH YARMOUTH - Claire E. (McEnroy) Martinez, 82, died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at the Oak Knoll Healthcare Center in Framingham following a brief illness.

She was born in the family home in Cochituate on April 1, 1925, the daughter of the late Frank L. and Clara E. (Lynch) McEnroy.

Mrs. Martinez is survived by her daughters Dolores M. ''Lori” Slatkavitz and her husband, Paul, of Franklin, Nancy Assencoa of Sandwich and Marie Fitzpatrick of Holliston. She was the sister of Marie Zonghi of Natick, Nancy Harrington and her husband, George, of Shrewsbury, and Charles McEnroy and his wife, Ellie, of Yarmouthport. Beloved grandmother of Joseph Assencoa Jr., Dennis Aleff Jr., Scott Assencoa, Nicholas Slatkavitz, Lisa Marie Slatkavitz and Sean Fitzpatrick. Devoted great-grandmother of Melissa, Sophie, Samuel and Brody Assencoa. She also leaves son-in-law Joseph Fitzpatrick of Holliston and many nieces and nephews.

She was the wife of the late Carlos Martinez, who died in February of 2004, and mother of the late George M. Martinez, who died in 1952.

She was the sister of the late Frank McEnroy, Joseph McEnroy, Ellen Perry, Daphne McLean, Virginia Young and Gayle McEnroy.

Claire spent her formative years in Cochituate and was a graduate of Wayland High School.

For over 25 years she and her husband raised their family in Framingham and for the past 24 years she has resided in South Yarmouth.

She retired as a machine operator with the Dennison Manufacturing Co. in Framingham after many years of dedicated service.

She loved to spend time doing crossword puzzles and especially enjoyed watching, feeding and caring for the wild birds in her yard.

She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends may gather at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Route 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland, on Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at 9 a.m. followed by her Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Zepherin Church, Route 27, Cochituate Village, Wayland.

Interment will follow in the McEnroy family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate Village, Wayland.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that memorial gifts in Claire's memory may be sent to Wild Care, 10 Smith Lane, Eastham, MA 02642 for the care of injured birds.
