Francis Dorn Obituary

PLYMOUTH — Francis B. Dorn, 90, of Plymouth and formerly of Braintree, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at the Bay Path Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Duxbury after a brief illness.

Mr. Dorn was born in Boston, and raised and educated in the Quincy schools. He graduated from North Quincy High School and Bentley College. He lived in Plymouth for two years, and in Brewster for many years as a summer and winter resident; he lived earlier in Braintree for 30 years. Mr. Dorn served as an ensign in the Navy during World War II, and afterward was self-employed as an accountant and owner of Francis B. Dorn CPA Tax Consultant of Quincy. He retired many years ago.

He was a lifetime member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks and a life member of the Ancient & Honorable Artillery Co. of Massachusetts with the rank of lieutenant. He was also a member of the Neighborhood Club of Quincy and the Allen Harbor Yacht Club of Harwich Port. Mr. Dorn enjoyed traveling, fishing and golfing.

Mr. Dorn was the beloved husband of the late Elinor M. (Montgomery) Dorn; devoted father of Michael P. Dorn, retired member of the Massachusetts State Police, and his wife Carol of Braintree, Gregory F. Dorn and his wife Abigail of Duxbury, and Elizabeth A. Snow and her husband Stephen of Yarmouthport; loving grandfather of Gregory Jr., Stephanie, Christopher, Matthew, Weston and Heather; and great-grandfather of Olivia Marie.

A funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Ave., Quincy. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington St., Braintree. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16. Interment with military honors is at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
