SANDWICH - Marvin H. Gluckman, age 78, a retired teacher and business owner, died on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at the Emerson Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Watertown.

Born in Providence, R.I., and raised in Cranston, R.I., Mr. Gluckman was a son of the late Emanuel and Gertrude (Davis) Gluckman. He graduated with a degree in economics from Providence College and earned a master's degree from Rhode Island College. He served in the Army during the Korean War era, and was a science teacher at Central High School in Providence.

Mr. Gluckman and his late wife, Harriet, resided in Cranston and also in Lincoln, R.I., prior to her death in 1974. He later remarried, and he and his wife Judith lived in Sandwich for 30 years, where he taught at the Riverview School. During their retirement years, the Gluckmans owned and managed the Spring Garden Motel, and later Aunt Judy's Bed and Breakfast, both in Sandwich.

He loved sailing, cars, movies and dogs, particularly Springer Spaniels.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, Suzie-Jai Gluckman Thomas and her husband Henry of Acton, and Jon Mark Gluckman and his wife Barbara A. Bassett of Haddonfield, N.J.; a grandson, Stephen Gluckman; and two brothers, Leon of New York and Alan of Florida.

Services for Mr. Gluckman will be announced at a later date.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.

My deepest sympathy to Marvin's family. I graduated from Cranston High School with him, and just attended my 60'th High School Reunion on September 21'st. I looked all over for him that day. My name was Elizabeth Adams, in High School. He sat near me in my home room. Marvin was a very bright and fun person. I feel sad.
