Rocco Fosco Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 31, 2007.
DEDHAM — Rocco R. Fosco, 93, an avid golfer and member of Walpole Country Club, formerly of Westwood and Hyde Park, died at home in "Traditions," Dedham, on Oct. 27, 2007.

He was the beloved husband for 67 years to Lucy. M. (Cibotti) Fosco; loving father of Claire Murphy of Stoughton, Adele Eklund and her husband Walter of Harwich, Diane Hillard of Marshfield, and Carol Bruce of Norwood; brother of Susan McDermott of Braintree, and the late Mary Penna of Holbrook. Known as "Papa" by his grandchildren, Debbie, Jeffrey, Sean, Courtney and Christopher, and two great-grandchildren, Patrick and Kevin, he was Uncle Rocky to his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In 1920, his family immigrated to the United States from Orsogna, Italy.

A World War II Army veteran, he held various positions for the City of Boston, retiring as superintendent of Maintenance of Parks and Recreation.

He loved travel and golf, attending socials, and just being around his family and friends. Above all, he cherished every day with Lucy, his wife of 67 years. He was an enthusiastic golfer and long-term member of the Walpole Country Club, and was inducted into the "Hole in One Club" in April 2001 at the young age of 87.

Funeral services will be held from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St. (Route 1A), Norwood, Friday, Nov. 2, at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at St. Denis Church, 157 Washington St., Westwood (Route 1A), Islington, at 9 a.m. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.

Dear Lou and family, I am so so sorry to hear of Rocco's passing. What a wonderful man. I was so touched by the love that he and Lou had for each other. So many times seeing them together at Cafe Diva or at St. Denis or Roche Bros.. What a devoted couple! I will miss that sight so much.
Rocco was so thoughtful. Always remembering my family and asking how they were.
I am so glad to have known him. God Bless him and Lou now. I will always remember him in prayer. I am sorry that I found out too late to attend the services as he so deserved the respect. Love to all of you and especially to Lou.
God Bless You.
Our deepest sympathy.

Mr. Fosco,
Sir, I didn't know you but I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
