Sophia F. "Sophie" Selin

LITTLETON - Sophia F. ''Sophie” Selin, age 87, formerly of Hyannis, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at the Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton.

Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Josephine (Zielinska) Fijol. Mrs. Selin was raised in Dorchester and also resided in Pasadena, Calif., for a time.

A pianist and singer, Mrs. Selin's life centered around her love for music. She returned to school in the 1950s and earned a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate from North Adams State College. She then moved to Hyannis and taught music and voice on a part-time basis in Barnstable schools for 20 years. She especially enjoyed researching the history of the various selections taught to her classes.

She is survived by five children, John Selin and his wife, Patricia, of Stow, Carole Selin-Nitz and her husband, David, of Wayzata, Minn., Christine Selin of Eagle River, Alaska, Marianne Grimshaw of Charlottesville, Va., and Stephen Selin and his wife, Judy, of Shelburne, Vt.; a brother, Mitchell Fijol of North Weymouth; eight grandchildren, Kimberley Selin Wood, Meredith Selin York, Christopher Selin, Aron and Robin Standley, Kristen Grimshaw, and Lindsay and Morgan Selin; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan York and Brianna Wood.

All are invited to visiting hours on Friday, Sept. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Mass Ave. (Route 111) Acton.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 29, at 9 a.m., in St. Isidore's Church, 429 Great Road, Stow. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Gleasondale Road (Route 62), Stow Center.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to a charity of one's choice.
