Mildred Vahey

VAHEY - Mildred (Mid) S., wife of the late Thomas Vahey, was born in Lisbon, Iowa and attended Cornell College there. In the late 1930's, she joined the all-girl orchestra, the Coquettes, and toured the country playing saxophone and clarinet. She married her husband, Tom, an Air Force Lieutenant, in 1942. In 1950, she and her husband opened the "Music Box" a nightclub on Route 28, in East Falmouth, where she performed with small combos and several years. Later in life, she studied organ and played at the Dome Restaurant in Woods Hole for 13 seasons. In the winter, she and her husband lived in the Naples FL area where she continued to play sax and clarinet. Mrs. Vahey was a resident of Falmouth Heights for over 50 years. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. There will be a Funeral Mass Tuesday, at 11:30 A.M. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Main St., Falmouth, MA, October 7, 2003, followed by a burial at the V.A. National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
