Passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2018, with family nearby, at the age of 85. He retired from the U.S. Information Agency Voice of America, as a journalist (29 years). Additionally, he held his own firm (Mellits Fire Equipment) for many years, for the sales and the distribution of fire extinguishers and fire equipment cabinets ... known as the "fire extinguisher guy" throughout the Washington-Baltimore construction region/industry for many years. Allyn was a U.S. Army Veteran (3 years) of the European Theatre WWII occupation. He was also a past member of the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife Christa of 58 years: his three sons; Kirk (wife Barbara), Pete (wife Lisa) and Andrei (wife Laura); eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A date for a service will be set to occur at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, anticipated for this December, where notices will be made to family and friends. Suggested contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made in his honor to the Anne Arundel Ostomy Association, Inc., PO Box 847, Gambrills, MD 21054. www.annearundelostomy.com.
