Donald W. "Deacon Don" Miller, 80, of Westminster, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at the Dove House. Born June 29, 1936 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Catherine Kerner Miller and Vernon Miller. He was the loving husband of 53 years to Mary Patricia Miller. He served as a deacon for the Archdiocese of Baltimore serving St. John Catholic Church in Westminster. He worked as an Environmental Engineer and worked in Maintenance at St. Louis Catholic Church. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church where he worked in the Health Care Ministry and member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1393. He served in the Army. Besides his wife he is survived by children and spouses Mary Pat and Brian Kavanagh of Finksburg, Michael and Marian Miller of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Donna and Tom Hofmeister of Austin, TX, Laura and Jack Jackson of Manassas, VA, and Julie and David Benedictis of Westminster, sister and brother-in-law Betty and Andrew Szymanik of Baltimore, brother and sister-in-law Melvin and Ginny Miller of Belair. Also survived by 32 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Theresa "Terri" Lynn Miller and a brother Vernon Miller. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 11, 2016 and Friday, August 12, 2016 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster with Father Mark Bialek and Father Michael Roach as celebrants. Interment with military honors will follow in Meadow Branch Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157. His entire life, up until his last breath, he showed what it is to be a true servant of God. He suffered so much and did it humbly and graciously. We can't help but be happy for the joy he is experiencing now in the presence of Jesus. "Well done, good and faithful servant¿enter into the joy of your master." Mt 25:23. I just read about Don's passing in the Catholic Review. I am so sorry! His gentle kindness and thoughtfulness were such gifts to all who knew him. His love and joy in his family even during difficult times was wonderful to see. Pat, Please accept my condolences to you and your family on this hard loss. Although I am not able to be there in person to express my condolences, I want to assure you that Deacon Don ... and all of his wonderful family ... are in my prayers. Even when he was not feeling well and in pain himself, Don always had a smile and expressed concern for others. He was truly a wonderful man of God.
