Pearl Fritz Obituary



Pearl Margaret Kier Fritz, 97, of Sykesville, formerly of Liberty Boro (McKeesport), died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013.

Born March 14, 1916, in Liberty Boro, she was the daughter of the late James Nelson and Pearl Margaret George Kier. She was the wife of the late Carl J. Fritz, her husband of 36 years.

After graduating from McKeesport High School and Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing, she became a longtime employee of Shadyside Hospital. She also worked with Dr. Melvin Levendorf of Liberty Boro. While working as a school nurse in the South Allegheny School District, she continued her education, graduating from California University of Pennsylvania.

She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, as well as a life member of the Allegheny County Retired Public School Employees and Pennsylvania Retired Public School Employees Association. She was also a member of Liberty Presbyterian Church for 84 years, serving as an elder and a commissioned lay pastor. She enjoyed serving others and, for many years, she provided The Intersection with food for the homeless. She liked Dorothy's chocolates and was an avid card player. Her favorite pastimes included playing games and baking cookies with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Surviving are son Bruce C. Fritz and wife Paula; grandaughters Heidi Wilhelm and husband Robert, Lisa Martinez and husband Roberto, Tammy Hauprich and husband Matthew, and Cynthia Specht; great-grandchildren Harrison, Danielle, Christopher, Joshua, Samantha, Melissa, Nicholas, Jack and Jared; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers George, James and Charles Kier; and a sister, Ada Johnson.

Friends were received Friday and a service was held Saturday at  Liberty Presbyterian Church in Liberty Boro. Interment followed at Jefferson Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Liberty Presbyterian Church, 816 Elizabeth St., McKeesport, PA 15133.
