Albert James "Al" Johnson, 94, of Westminster, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Carroll Hospital Center. Al was born on December 11, 1923 in Branchville, MD and was the son of the late Albert Lee and Annie W. (Hofmann) Johnson. Twice married he was the beloved husband of the late Beatrice G. Johnson, who predeceased him November 2, 1987. He was the cherished husband of Willa Johnson, his wife of 12 years. Al was a graduate of McKinley Tech High School, in Washington D.C., with the class of 1941. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force. Al was the owner of "Johnson's", a general store and soda fountain shop, from 1949 until retiring in 1975. During his retirement he worked as a school bus driver for Prince George's County, and retired in 1992 as a bus lot assistant forman for Prince George's County. Al enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing Bingo and poker, fishing, dancing, and was an avid sports fan. He attended Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are children Glenn Johnson and wife Gloria of Clarksville, Gail Johnson of Laurel, Keith Johnson and wife Mary Louise of Jupiter, FL; step-children Debbie Wall and husband Larry of Clarksville, Cindy Rock and husband Rob of Frederick, Joan Kensinger of Seattle, WA; brother Lawrence Johnson and wife Rachel of Clinton, NC; grandchildren Kevin Johnson of Philadelphia, PA, Bryan Johnson of New Market, Jason Johnson of Clarksville, Kayla Johnson of Germantown, Kyle Johnson of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; step-grandchildren Evan Wall, Drew Wall, Tyler Wall, Robert Rock, Michael Rock; great-grandchildren Evelyn, Callista, Norah, Roselyn, and Jarrett. He was predeceased by his sister Edith Cochran. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 4th at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Lou Piel officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Fort Lincoln Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Carroll Lutheran Village Residential Assistant Fund, 200 St. Luke Cir., Westminster, MD 21158.
