On Sunday, June 26, a terrific husband, father, granddad, great granddad went to be with the Lord. Alexander Keeney, Jr., 87, of Littlestown, had built a legacy of people and a list of remarkable accomplishments here on earth during his lifetime. He was the husband of Mary Catherine (Adams) Keeney for 64 years. Born in Steubenville, OH, he was the only child of Alexander, Sr. & Janet (MacDonald) Keeney. Alex was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Steubenville. He received his AA degree in Industrial Engineering from Pittsburgh Technical Institute and a B.S.A. and M.B.A. degrees from Mount St. Mary's College of Emmitsburg. Alex was a Sergeant in the Army during WWII and was stationed in Japan. He was employed with Random House Inc. as Manager of Industrial Engineering for 41 years retiring in 1994. Alex was a professional certified in Materials Handling. He had several materials handling and packaging articles published in various trade magazines and journals both of national and international circulation. He had been a guest speaker on many regional, national and university technical programs. He served on the advisory board of Carroll County Vo-tech for the Materials Handling-Warehouse curriculum from 1981-1991. Alex was a member of the subcommittee rewriting ANSI B 56.1 Industrial Lift Truck Standards. He initiated and taught courses in Materials Handling and Warehouse Supervision at Harrisburg Area Community College. Alex was also an adjunct professor, Materials Management, at Catonsville Community College, Westminster campus. He received special acknowledgements as contributor to Random House College Dictionary and was contributing author to The Warehouse Management Handbook, McGraw-Hill, 1988 and The Distribution Management Handbook, McGraw-Hill, 1994. Surviving in addition to his wife, are 6 children: Roxanne M. Ecker of Littlestown, Alexander M. Keeney of Lawrenceville, GA, Karen L. Keeney of Hanover, Margaret M. DeFazio of Pittsburgh, George T. Keeney of Gettysburg and Gregory P. Keeney of Alexandria, VA; his grandchildren: Kristina Gartrell, Kimberly Smith, Amy Frye, Steven & Jennifer DeFazio, Daniel, Paige & Michael Keeney, Adam & Alex Keeney and Jacob, Braden & Karsten Keeney and his great grandchildren: Hannah, Katie & Emma Gartrell, Colton Frye and Sierra, Luca, Isabelle & Kynlie Keeney. Alex was predeceased by his son, Mark S. Keeney in 1999. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Littlestown. A Memorial Mass is Tues, July 5, at 11 A.M. at his church with The Rev. James M. Sterner Celebrant. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery where full military honors will be conducted. Memorials in Alex's name may be sent to his church @ 29 S.
