Mr. Allan Lavine Derr, 75, of Westminster, died Monday, May 18, 2015, at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Medical Center, Baltimore, due to injuries sustained in a fall. Born January 8, 1940 in Hampstead, he was the son of the late Quentian S. and Alma Kiler Derr. He was the husband of Reba Buffington Derr, his wife of 54 ½ years. Allan was a 1958 graduate of New Windsor High School and served as president of his senior class. He was active with the New Windsor High School Alumni Association, having served as a past president and was the current treasurer. He was an active member of Wakefield Valley Bible Church, near New Windsor, where he served as a deacon, Building Fund treasurer for 40+ years, choir member and softball coach. He volunteered at the election polls at Westminster Elementary School. He was employed with Baltimore Gas and Electric for 40 years, working mainly out of Reese. After retirement he was a bus driver with Rill's Bus Service for a number of years and also a driver for Crouse Ford of Taneytown. He was an avid hunter, bowler, gardener and fisherman. He enjoyed watching/coaching his children and grandchildren as they participated in sporting and dance activities. In addition to his wife he is survived by 4 children, D. Scott Derr and wife Donna of Union Bridge; Donna Matz and husband Ken of Centreville, VA; Danny Derr and wife Kim of Marriottsville and Dale Derr and wife Danielle of Westminster; 7 grandchildren, Heather Derr and fiancé R.J. Wetzel, Cameron Derr, Meredith and Allison Matz, Penelope and Atticus Derr and Bentley Derr; a brother, Sterling E. Derr and wife Pat of Union Bridge; 3 sisters, Rosella Reese and husband Bob of New Windsor, Sharon Grimes and husband Bob of Union Bridge and Ella Mae Osment and husband Joe of Essex and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Joey Matz. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Wakefield Valley Bible Church, 2206 Old New Windsor Pike, with Rev. Mark Jones, his pastor, officiating, assisted by nephew, Mr. Karl Heltibridle. Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Uniontown. The family will receive friends at the church 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 22. Memorial contributions may be made to University of Maryland System Foundation, 110 S. Paca St., Baltimore, MD 21201 or to the Building Fund of Wakefield Valley Bible Church, 2206 Old New Windsor Pike, New Windsor, MD 21776.
