Alma C. Tyler, 93, of Taneytown, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village.

Born March 10, 1919, in Rock Bridge County, Va., she was the daughter of the late L. A. and Clara Clark Conner. She was the wife of John W. Tyler Jr., who died in 1978.

She was an active member for more than 50 years at the Piney Creek ARP Presbyterian Church in Harney. She served as the president of Ladies Missionary Society and was a former Sunday school teacher at the church. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed sewing.

Surviving are daughters Clara Jean Wivell-Kaiser, of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., Mildred Weatherly, of Fairfield, Pa., and Juanita Fream and husband Charles, of Taneytown; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gracie Housman, of Buchanan, Va.

She was predeceased by a son, George J. "Toby" Tyler; a brother, Franklin Higgins; and a sister, Velma Entsminger.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, Pa.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Matthews officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg.
