Alvin George Vain, 79, of Taneytown, died February 22, 2015 at his home. Born November 24, 1935 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late George and Sally Fish Vain. He was the husband of the late Annie Ogle Vain, who died in September, 2006. Alvin had been the owner of Shamrock Liquors in Baltimore from 1968 until 1989. He was the former owner of V. Ogle Construction of Westminster. He served in the Army from 1958 until 1961 where he played in the Army Band. He enjoyed golfing at Quail Valley Country Club, and played the drums, guitar and piano. Surviving are stepchildren Leslie D. Polk of Baltimore and Michael L. and wife Della A. Polk of Westminster; siblings Jack Vain of Taneytown, Calvin Vain of Arnold, James Vain of Baltimore, Ralph Vain of Delaware, and Shirley Sipe of Ft. Pierce, FL; grandchildren Julie A. Polk and Brian M. Polk and wife Jennifer; great grandson Lucas C. Polk; and survived by 16 nieces, 26 nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Jimmie Schwartz. Entombment will follow in Loudon Park Mausoleum.
