Andrew John "Andy" Olert, 89, of Hanover, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Utz Terrace in Hanover. Andy was born on December 9, 1928 in Baltimore, and was the son of the late Andrew C. and Marie (Fleckenstein) Olert. Andy was the loving husband of Margaret Mary (Linhard) Olert whom he married on October 7, 1950. He was a 1946 graduate of Mt. St. Joe's High School in Baltimore and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Loyola University in 1950. In his college years together with friends they formed "The Barron's Club", a charitable community group. Andy enlisted in the Army in 1952, and served during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in 1952. He was a chemical engineer, who after some years of experience in research and design of thermal batteries, became an entrepreneur as he and 2 other men started SCORE Inc. in 1966. This eventually became SAFT America, from which he retired, and it is still a successful thermal battery manufacturer today. Andy and his wife were constantly involved in youth ministries. He was a dedicated volunteer at the Joseph House Ministries in Salisbury, when they moved to "the beach". He enjoyed golf, fishing, crabbing, woodworking, building model boats and spending time with family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Peggy (David) Tingley of Westminster; Barbara Novasecko of Baltimore; Andy (Cindy) Olert of Texas, Margie Lugenbeel of Baltimore, Mary Jean Cronin of Leola, PA and Naomi Lowenthal of Michigan. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Mary Catherine Olert and Eileen Olert. Andy leaves many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
