Anna Elizabeth Hatfield Rippeon, 92, of Walkersville, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 31, 1921, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Melvin and Anna Elizabeth Stultz Hatfield. She was the wife of Harry Bernard Rippeon, her husband of 71 years, who died in December 2011.

She was known as "Liz" by friends and her family called her "Nanny." She was the oldest of 10 children.

She was employed by Claire Frock Sewing Factory in Thurmont for 35 years, retiring in 1996. She was talented with water colors and oil painting. She enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, crocheting, embroidery and making bead jewelry. In the summer, her freezer and pantry would be stocked with canning jars filled with homegrown vegetables from the garden.

Surviving are children Doris LaRue Rippeon Beckley, of Walkersville, and Robert Allen Rippeon and wife Patricia, of Bowie; grandchildren Stephen Brant Beckley, of Walkersville, Tiffany Renee Rippeon Gozum and husband Mario, of Stevensville, and Jan Michelle Rippeon Linder, of Greensboro, N.C.; great-grandchildren Kimberly Paige and Tyler Brant Beckley, of Walkersville, and Taylor Marie Gozum, of Stevensville; siblings Doris Fay Hatfield Brown, of New Windsor, Wayne Lee Hatfield and Carlos Stultz Hatfield, both of Westminster, and Darylene Truth Hatfield Blickenstaff, of Hagerstown; and caregiver, Catherine Kefauver.

She was predeceased by siblings Charles Edward Hatfield, William Roy Hatfield, Betty Virginia Hatfield Shipley, Gene Euvean Hatfield and Patsy Carlene Hatfield Anders.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard L. Michael, pastor of St. James Lutheran Church in Union Bridge, officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
