Arlene May Sterner, 94 of Hanover, PA, passed peacefully Wednesday August 24, 2016 at the Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, PA. Born Jan. 28, 1922 in Carroll County, MD she was the daughter of the late Miles Alvin and Cora May Haines Bortner. She was the wife of the late Sterling John Sterner.Years ago, she worked at the Manchester Sewing Factory and the Melrose Canning Factory. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a member of the E.L.C.A. She enjoyed farming, crocheting, quilting and gardening.She is survived by her sons; Richard S. Sterner and wife Bonnie of Manchester, MD, Edward C. Sterner and wife Bonita of Hampstead, MD and David "Skeeter" C. Sterner of Hampstead, MD. grandchildren; Matthew Sterner and wife Molly, Stacey Hinton and Chris Sterner and wife Sarah. She was also survived by 3 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was predeceased by brothers; Clyde H. and M. Burnell Bortner.The family will receive friends at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3184 Church St., Manchester, MD, on Monday August 29, 2016 from 10am until the time of service at 11am.Interment will be in the New Lutheran Cemetery, Manchester. If desired, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lazarus Church or Homewood at Plum Creek.
