Arthur Burkett "Burke" Lego, age 96 of Westminster, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. Born August 19, 1919 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Della Yingling Lego. He was the husband of the late Mary C. Lego, his wife of 60 years, whom he married on August 18, 1951. Burke was educated in Baltimore City Schools and graduated from Johns Hopkins University in the spring of 1942. He joined the Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army then served in WWII as 1st Lieutenant in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy until autumn 1945. Shortly after WWII, on a blind date arranged by a classmate, Burke met Mary Catherine O'Brien. The two were obviously meant for each other, but Burke was very slow in making wedding arrangements- a slow start, but really happy marriage that was to last for 60 years plus. In about two years their first son, Burkett Timothy was born and Arthur Richard followed in about 3 years. Until then the family lived in Baltimore on Maple Hill Road where Mary practiced as an RN and Burke followed construction until about mid-1972. Carroll County became attractive to the Lego's where they acquired 50 plus acres, built a house, and lived there for 32 years. During this time both sons married and each had two sons. It was also at this time that Mary and Burke sold their house and moved to Carroll Lutheran Village. It was there on November 14, 2011 that Mary passed away. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law B. Timothy and Deborra Lego, and A. Richard and Deborah Lego, and grandchildren Matthew Timothy Lego, Andrew Benjamin Lego, Ethan Burkett Lego, and Colin Richard Lego. He was predeceased by his sister, Ethel Louise Lego. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8pm at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 2205 Old Liberty Road, Eldersburg, MD 21784 with Pastor Robin Simpson Litton officiating. Interment in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Spirit Lutheran Church at the address above. Online condolences may be offered at
