Aubrey Joseph Stem III, 74, of Smallwood, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at home.

Born Sept. 18, 1939, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Aubrey Joseph Stem Jr. and the late Edith Case Stem. He was the husband of Peggy Ann Foster Stem and the late Lora Murphy Stem.

He was a professional truck driver for his entire career and retired in 1990 from Yellow Freight Systems. He was a member of Union #557. He was a paratrooper in the Army, stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky., from 1956 to 1959.

Surviving are a son, Timothy M. Stem, of Glen Burnie; brothers Michael H. Stem and wife Carolyn, of Westminster, and Thomas V. Stem and wife Lisa, of Red Lion, Pa.; sister Susan M. Strawsburg and husband Steve, of New Windsor; five stepchildren; one grandchild; nine step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Aubrey Joseph Stem IV; and brothers Paul Case Stem and Richard W. Stem Sr.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service, noon Wednesday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Christopher Carabell, of Church of the Open Door in Westminster, officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Days End Farm Horse Rescue, 1372 Woodbine Road, Woodbine, MD 21797.
