Avis Erlen Claypool, 71, of Hampstead, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born March 7, 1943, in Hackers Valley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Walsie Cowger and Sarah Claypool Cowger Lee. She was the wife of the late Edward S. Claypool.

She had been a factory worker at Snyder's of Hanover and had also worked in the laundry division of Golden Living Nursing Home.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, going to yard sales, camping, fishing and spending time with her cats and her family.

Surviving are sons Dwaine Claypool and wife Dawn, of New Windsor, Wayne Claypool and wife Sally, of Abbotstown, Pa., and David Claypool and wife Sandra, of New Oxford, Pa.; daughters Ruth Diehl and husband Bobby, of Littlestown, Pa., and Judith Mercer and husband Brian, of Hanover, Pa.; brothers Eugene Cowger and Jerry Cowger, both of West Virginia; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sisters Marie Jordan and Louise Cowger.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
