Barbara A. Sponer, 75, of Sykesville, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia.

Born Dec. 13, 1937, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Margaret Spence Eschenbach. She was the wife of Raymond E. Sponer, her husband of 53 years.

She had been employed as a clerical office worker but spent most of her life as a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Community in Eldersburg. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are son Lawrence Sponer and fiancee Eilene Strevig, of Westminster; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Paul Potocki, of Westminster; a sister, Margie Lilly, of Greensboro, N.C.; and grandchildren Austin, Garrett and Marissa Potocki, all of Westminster.

She was predeceased by a sister, Joan Drakulic.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg. Interment will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville.
