Barbara Cole Peck, 92, of Westminster, MD died of natural causes on February 25, 2017. Born February 10, 1925 in Ayer, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the Frederick Eugene Cole and Olive Evangeline Carroll Cole of Amherst, Massachusetts. She was the wife of Dr. Arthur Howard Peck for 62 years who preceded her in death on August 2, 2009. She attended college at the University of Massachusetts and earned a BA in Language Arts in 1947. She continued her education at Western Maryland College and earned a masters equivalency in Library Science/English. Barbara supported her husband's large and small animal veterinary practice in Carroll County for 35 years until 1985 when he retired. She worked as a Librarian/Media Specialist for Westminster High School for 18 years and then in the office for her son-in-law Jerry Condon for another 15 years. She was a member of the General Federation of Women's Club for 62 years. She served as a community volunteer and leader in both the GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Westminster and the GFWC Woman's Club of Westminster. She served as GFWC Maryland's Western District President 1990-1992 before serving as the GFWC Maryland State President from 1996-1998. She continued to lend support and encouragement to the organization until her death. She was a member of the Carroll Garden Club for 50 years, volunteering in Westminster city gardens as well as maintaining her own home perennial gardens. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and served on the alter flowers committee for many years. She also helped research memorial giving for St. Paul's. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Linda Bloedau and David Taylor of North Carolina, Babs and Jerry Condon of Westminster, and Sue and Chris O'Dell of Colorado; five grandchildren and their spouses, Katie Bloedau and Craig Johnson of North Carolina, AJ and Megan Condon of Frederick, Gregory and Jess Condon of Westminster, and Erin and Kelley O'Dell of Colorado; along with five great grandchildren, RJ Haney and Carly Johnson of North Carolina, Tyler and Natalie Condon of Frederick, MD and Julia Condon of Westminster, MD. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers Carroll Vernon Cole, Norman Spaulding Cole and her great grandchild Bryce Garrett Condon. Friends may call from 10 to 12 on Saturday, March 18 at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 18 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 17 Bond Street, Westminster, MD with the Reverend Marty Kuchma officiating. Private interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the General Federation of Women's Clubs at 1734 N Street NW, Washington, DC 20036-2990 to honor her commitment to this organization's volunteerism and community improvement.
