The Rev. Basil Boyer Day Jr., 54, of Westminster, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at home.

Born Jan. 14, 1958, he was the son of Sally Jo Eisenbeis Day and Basil Boyer Day Sr., of Carroll Valley, Pa. He was the husband of Cindy Thomas Day.

He graduated from Linganore High School in 1976. He graduated from Messiah College, Princeton Theological Seminary and Wesley Theological Seminary.

He was a Methodist minister serving at Bolivar United Methodist Church in Bolivar, West Virginia, Howard Chapel United Methodist Church in Mount Airy, Emmanuel Bethel United Methodist Church in Cumberland, Shannondale Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Deer Park United Methodist Church in Smallwood.

He was an elder in the Baltimore Washington Conference. He was an accomplished musician playing the piano, organ, clarinet and guitar, and was a member of the Browningsville Cornet Band during his youth. He also served as the chaplain for Troop No. 9, his son Evan's Boy Scout troop.

He enjoyed music, singing, chess, solving calculus problems and reading. He shared his mathematical and musical gifts with his sons.

Surviving, in addition to his parents and wife, are sons Ethan Stefan Day and Evan Thomas Day, of Westminster; a sister, Polly Jo Day Mihalkovic, of Virginia Beach, Va.; a niece, Jennifer Mihalkovic; nephews Andrew and Christopher Mihalkovic, all of Virginia Beach; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Private memorial services and interment will be on the family farm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Ethan S. and Evan T. Day Educational Fund, c/o Cindy T. Day, 2804 Rainbow Drive, Westminster, MD 21157.
