Bernard John Amrhein, 78, of Finksburg, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Johns Hopkins Medical Center.

Born Sept. 5, 1935, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Mary M. Ibbott Amrhein. He was the husband of Charlotte Rowe Amrhein, his wife of 55 years.

He was a retired Baltimore city police officer and security supervisor at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He served more than 15 years in the Army National Guard.

He was a former member of St. John Catholic Church in Westminster, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was currently a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glyndon, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

He enjoyed spending time with his family at Bethany Beach.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Michele R. Amrhein, Charlotte Petela and husband Michael, and Bernie Amrhein and wife Vickie, all of Westminster; siblings Marie Holback and Lawrence Amrhein, both of Harford County, Joseph Amrhein, of Florida, and Kathleen Brown and Alfred and Anthony Amrhein, all of Baltimore; grandchildren Jessica and Jeremy Romanoski, Sean Flynn, Allie Amrhein and Matthew, Maria and Samantha Petela; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant son, Christopher David Amrhein; a brother, William N. Amrhein; and a sister, Kathleen Amrhein.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, where the Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary service at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, with the Rev. John Lesnick as celebrant. Interment will be in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
