Bessie Woodrow Cramer, of Hanover, PA passed away at Hanover Hall Nurisng Home in Hanover, PA on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the age of 103. Born in Rowlandsville, Maryland in Cecil County on December 3, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Rosa Caldwell Woodrow. Bessie attended the Jacob Tome Institute in Port Deposit, MD and was a member of the class of 1930. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school at the Rowlandsville Methodist Church and singing in the church choir. She married James Veryl Cramer in 1931. Although she spent many years in Melrose, Manchester and Lineboro, MD, she had lived in Hanover for over 50 years. She was a member of the Lazarus United Church of Christ in Lineboro, a charter member of the Lineboro Fireman Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Lebanon Chapter of the Eastern Star in Manchester and the AARP 294 chapter in Hanover. Some of her fondest memories and dearest friendships were formed as a member of the Lineboro Friendship Club for which she was a founding member. The club began in 1941 as a glee club, but evolved in to a social group which played a very special part in Bessie's life for many decades. Bessie was a kind, compassionate and fiercely independent woman. She enjoyed caring for the children of numerous Hanover families over the years. She drove a car well in to her late nineties and always loved to be on the go. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and adoring grandmother. Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, J. Veryl Cramer, her sister, Margaret Woodrow Kell and her only daughter, Carolyn Cramer Korn. She is survived by her son-in-law, John M. Korn, a granddaughter, Julie Korn Batten and her husband, Jeffrey Batten and two great grandsons, John Robert Batten and Benjamin Cramer Batten, all of Atlanta, GA. A memorial service will be held at Kenworthy Funeral Home, 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 3:00pm. A burial will follow at a later date at the Lazarus United Church of Christ cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to: Lazarus United Church of Christ 5101 S.
