Bessie May Blacksten, 100, of Westminster, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Look About Manor Assisted Living.

Born June 11, 1912, in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Cora Ethel Pickett Scheller. She was the wife of Sterling "Buck" Ellsworth Blacksten, who died in 1978.

She and her husband were dairy farmers and she was employed at Union Bridge Clothing Company, Kessler's Shoe Factory and Westminster Knit Company. She retired from Lands Furniture Company, of New Windsor, where she worked as a supervisor.

She was a member of Union Bridge Methodist Church. She enjoyed doing custom sewing for many people, making suits, dresses and gowns for employees at Black & Decker Company. She enjoyed working in her yard and with her many flowers, feeding the birds and bird watching, and enjoyed her many car/motor home/shopping trips with her daughter Shirley and son-in-law Charles Fowler. Her daughter Shirley Fowler provided care for her for many years.

She had enjoyed her 100th birthday in June 2012 with approximately 100 people at Kriders Church.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Marie Warner, of Westminster; daughters Evelyn L. Reichlin and husband Allen, of Denton, Shirley A. Fowler, of Pleasant Valley, and companion Don Dedmon, of Taneytown, and Esther L. Wall, of Harrisburg, Pa.; a son, Raymond E. Blacksten and wife Patsy, of Denton; grandchildren William "Bill" Fowler, Teresa "Terry" Fowler Meininger, Mark Reichlin, Pam Wall Antlitz, Ronald Wall, Kelly Blacksten Reed and Todd Blacksten; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Brown; a brother, Harry Scheller; sons-in-law Charles "Chuck" Fowler and Donald Wall; and a grandson, Jeff Reichlin.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ann Schlossnagle, Chaplain of Carroll Hospital Center, officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Uniontown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Pleasant Valley fire company, 2030 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Westminster, MD 21158.
