Betsy Lou Friese Alexander, 78, of Finksburg, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, unexpectedly at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Del.

Born Dec. 25, 1934, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Luther C. and Betty Flater Friese. She was the wife of Robert E. Alexander, her husband of more than 55 years, whom she married June 7, 1958.

She was a 1953 graduate of Westminster High School. She was a homemaker, and had also worked at AAA. She retired in 1989 from Sandymount Elementary School cafeteria, after working there for 20 years. She also worked for Rill's Bus Service.

She was a life member of Sandy Mount United Methodist Church. She was a life member and past president of Reese Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary for 36 years, where she held office for 30 years and served as a delegate at conventions. She was also a member of the Carroll County Ladies Auxiliary, and the Carroll County Republican Club.

She enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, reading, decorating for the holidays and spending time and attending events with her family.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are sons Jeffrey R. Alexander, of Westminster and Gregory L. Alexander, of Harrington, Del.; a daughter, Kimberly D. Alexander, of Clearville, Pa.; grandchildren Gregory Jr., Erika, Ryan, and Patrick Alexander; and sisters Patricia Selvey, of Reisterstown and Bonnie Dubel, of Churchville.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, chapel entrance, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sandy Mount United Methodist Church, 2101 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg, with the Rev. Bill Boyer and the Rev. Bob Wellman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Sandy Mount United Methodist Church, 2101 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg, MD 21048.
