Betty Alverta Young, age 93, of Westminster and formerly of New Windsor, died Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Brightview Westminster Ridge. Born March 3, 1924 in New Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Russell A. and Gwendolyn Cartzendafner Lindsay. She was the wife of the late Ralph M. Young, who predeceased her in 2000. Mrs. Young was formerly employed with the Brethren Service Center in New Windsor, as the manager of the International Gift Shop for 22 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Westminster Church of the Brethren, Soroptimist Club International and the former Sulphur Spring Lions Club of New Windsor. Surviving are two sons, Gary L. Young and wife Vicki of New Windsor and William B. Young of Westminster; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Cristina, Kristin, Lindsay, Sean and Nathan; and great-granddaughter, Dana. She was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Young in 2015; sister, Nancy L. Beideman in 2016; and a brother, Charles D. Lindsay in 1989. A memorial service will be announced for a later date. I enjoyed working wih Betty for many years, (My tenure with SERRV of '71~'88 and some volunteer years afterwards). She was a very devoted employee and promoter of the Gift Shop. Those were good years.
