Betty H. Bartell, 85, of New Oxford, PA, entered into God's eternal care, Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford, PA. Born June 18, 1929 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Lee S. and Mary S. (Daily) Hetrick. She was the devoted wife of Herbert M. Bartell with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. Betty was a graduate of Catonsville High School. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Hanover. Betty was a former Sunday School Teacher and was also a member of the Bethel Guardian #9, Job's Daughters as well as the Barnstormer Flying Club. While raising her children and being a homemaker, Mrs. Bartell was employed by the state of Maryland, working at the Rosewood Hospital until her retirement. Betty loved her children and in her free time, enjoyed taking care of her pets. In addition to her husband Herbert, Betty is survived by her children, Douglas Bartell and his wife Sue of New Freedom, PA, Deborah Ballantyne and husband Bradley of Taneytown, MD, David Bartell and wife Sandra of Littlestown, PA, Denise Hossler of Taneytown, MD, Dennis Bartell and his wife Kimberly of Abbottstown, PA , Dean Bartell and partner Skip Zickmund of Denver, CO, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was affectionately known as "Miss Betty" to so many special people through the years. A funeral service to celebrate and remember Betty's life will be held 11 AM, Monday, October 20, 2014 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA with Rev. Kirk A. Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, PA. Viewings and time to share memories with the family will be held from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the funeral home. Serving as casketbearers will be her grandsons, Matthew Bartell, Christopher Scheder, Nicholas Bartell, Kevin Bartell, Scotty Bartell and her son, Dean Bartell. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Betty may be made to the Adams County S.P.C.A., 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
