Betty Lou Babington, 79, of Union Bridge, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Carroll Hospital Center, after an extended illness.

Born Jan. 26, 1935, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Evelyn Boyce and Radie Evans. She was the wife of Paul Lloyd Babington, who died July 11, 2011.

She was a homemaker and had previously worked as a meat wrapper in several grocery stores. She was played a vital role in the family businesses Babington Paving Company, Paul Babington Quarter Horses and Babington Longhorns.

She enjoyed being with her family, watching soap operas, seek-a-word puzzles, collecting salt and pepper shakers and playing bingo.

Surviving are daughters Sandra Low, of Gold Bar, Wash., Vicky Babington and boyfriend Steve Hockenberry, and Cheri Thompson and husband Jeff, all of Union Bridge; brother and sister-in-law Robert Evans and wife Danielle, of Gettysburg, Pa.; granddaughters Tammy Slifer and husband Kevin, of New Market, and Tonya McHale and husband Eddie, of Parsonsburg; great-granddaughters Taryn Slifer, of New Market, and Katie McHale, of Parsonsburg; and a friend, Barbara Carroll, of Union Bridge.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of celebration of life, 3 p.m. Sunday at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. The family requests that guests dress casual.
