Betty Louise Buffington, 71, of Union Bridge, died Monday, June 18, 2012, at Carroll Hospital Center after a brief illness.

Born Jan. 25, 1941, in Union Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Charles Frederick Eyler and Helen Mackley Eyler. She was the wife of Harry E. Buffington Jr., her husband of 53 years.

She was a member of Mount Union Lutheran Church. She was formerly employed by Union Bridge Clothing Company, then she and her husband, along with her brother Roger, owned and operated the Airport 109 Restaurant at the Frederick Municipal Airport from 1981 until 1984.

After this she cared for her mother and mother-in-law for four years. In 1988 she started her own in-home business, B & B Monogramming, which was sold in 2007, and continued to operate under the same name, where she was the business manager until the time of her illness.

She enjoyed sewing, going to Charles Town, W.Va., and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters Betsy Funkhouser and husband Glenn "Mel", of Taneytown, and Cheryl Maring and husband Ron, of Union Bridge; grandchildren Bryne Taff, Holly Hess and husband Mikel, Joshua Funkhouser and wife Amber, and Casey Funkhouser; a great-granddaughter, Emma Taff; sister Delores "Cookie" Sauble and husband John, of Union Bridge; brother Charles Eyler and wife Pat, of Gettysburg, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by infant twin sons Harry E. III and Barry Lewis Buffington; sisters Kathleen Reed and Mary Kress; and brothers Roger, William, Carl and Tommy Eyler.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard L. Michael, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Union Cemetery.
