Betty Jane Lind, age 89, near Johnsville, died Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born July 1, 1928 in Johnsville, she was the daughter of the late Paul Raymond and Eva Hoover Singer. She was the wife of Joseph S. Lind who died in 2006. Betty was a 1945 graduate of Liberty High School and a graduate of Hagerstown Business College. She was a longtime active member of Mt. Zion Haugh's Lutheran Church where she served as church treasurer, was a former Sunday school teacher, and served on numerous committees and the church council. She was a member of the Frederick Memorial Hospital auxiliary, having served several terms as treasurer and volunteered in the gift shop and at the front desk. She was a member of the Johnsville Ruritan Club and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees where she served for 20 years as a service officer. Betty had been employed at Fort Detrick from 1952 - 1989. She enjoyed reading, counted cross stitch, crocheting and knitting. Surviving are daughters, Donna J. Lange and husband Michael L. of Hagerstown and Joanne M. Heilmeier and husband David W. of Lusby and son, Edward J. Lind and wife Karen L. of Thurmont; 6 grandchildren, Hope A. Johann and husband Derek, Paul E. Lange and wife Regina, Madison E. Heilmeier, Matthew E., Benjamin L. and Thomas J. Lind; 2 great grandchildren, Victoria A. Johann and Marleigh D. Lange; 4 sisters-in-law, Janet Singer of Selbyville, DE, Sarah C. Blessing of Keymar, Betty L. Crouse of Taneytown and Sophie Lind of Emmitsburg and brother-in-law, Roy L. Lind and wife Darlene of Woodsboro and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Franklin Singer and sister-in-law, Mary Grabill. A funeral service will be held at Haugh's Lutheran Church, 11504 Haugh's Church Rd., near Ladiesburg, 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 16, with Rev. Parris Beckhardt, former pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Haugh's Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 15 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown.
