Betty Dovell Utz, 89, of Hampstead died unexpectedly Saturday, April 22, 2017 at The Dove House in Westminster, MD, Mrs. Utz was born 9/16/27 in Hampstead, the youngest and last surviving of 11 children born to H. Edwin Reed & Emma Effie Lippy Reed. She was married to the late Francis Utz for 45 years and a resident of the Hampstead Community her entire life. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Dovell Greenwood & husband Bob of Hampstead with whom she resided & Celesa Dovell Hagan, York, Pa., grandchildren Rob & Jennifer Greenwood, Hampstead MD, Deni Greenwood, Finksburg Md, Joseph & Chelsea Hagan, Loganville, PA, Sara Hagan, San Diego, CA & Jacob Hagan, Vancover, WA. She was predeceased by grandson Tim Greenwood, Finksburg, MD. Also survived by 6 great grandchildren Kaiyli, Makenzie, Shae & Jameson Greenwood, Harper & Adaline Hagan, and many nieces & nephews. In her younger years she was employed at Black & Decker in Hampstead & later was one of the first 30 employees of Random House when it was established in Westminster. She spent most of her life as a housewife & the family will always have fond memories of Mom Mom Utz's chocolate chip cookies & peanut butter pinwheel candies. She & her husband spent many summers enjoying fishing trips on their boat in Ocean City. She spent countless hours and much love was given to cooking, baking, sewing & crocheting for her family. Honoring her request, her body was donated to the Maryland Board of Anatomy. A memorial service will be held on Friday evening, June 2 at 6:00 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, 1205 N Main St, Hampstead, MD. Donations in her memory may be made to the Coach Tim Greenwood Memorial Football Scholarship, 2120 Gallery Court, Hampstead, MD 21074
