Born Aug. 20, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Marion D. Young. She was the wife of the late Charles E. "Ed" Wise Jr.

She was a 1943 graduate of New Windsor High School and later attended Strayer Business College in Baltimore. She was employed as a secretary in the office of the Maryland Farm Bureau, where she met her husband. They lived in Baltimore and upon retirement returned to Carroll County, where they spent the remainder of their lives doing volunteer services for many organizations.

She was honored as the Carroll County Volunteer of the Year in 2000 by Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland.

She enjoyed music all of her life, especially singing, and was the co-founder of the Carroll County Choral Society and participated in that ensemble for many years. She was also instrumental in the start up of the Carroll County Choral Arts Society (now the Masterworks Chorale of Carroll County). She was a charter member of the Carroll County Community Concert Association. While living in Baltimore, she was a member of the Handel Choir of Baltimore and remained a lifelong supporter of the ensemble.

Along with her music, she enjoyed gardening, especially her roses, and traveling and sports, in particular, the Orioles. She was a hostess for gatherings of her large extended family.

Surviving are sisters Dorothy Henderson, of Baton Rouge, La., Erma Gebb, of Carlisle, Pa., Thelma Flippin, of Atlanta, Ga., Ruby Bechtold, of South Windsor, Conn., and Margaret Whitacre and husband Richard, of Bridgewater, Va.; brother Stewart D. Young and wife Gail, of Westminster; sisters-in-law Dorothy Young, of Baltimore, and Betty Young, of New Windsor; and nieces and nephews of the Young and Wise families.

She was predeceased by brothers Dr. John D. Young Jr. and Ralph M. Young.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren, 26 Pipe Creek Road, Union Bridge. Private interment in Pipe Creek Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
