Bruce Edward Baumgardner, 54, died from ataxia at his Palmetto Dunes home Wednesday, May 31, 2017. He is the son of E. Wayne and Barbara Borke Baumgardner of The Cypress, Hilton Head Island, SC., and is survived by his daughter Brooke Mayne Baumgardner, his former wife Pamela Mayne Baumgardner and his former fiancée, Sharon Bartha, all of Hilton Head Island. He is also survived by his older brother Brian Wayne Baumgardner and his fiancée Pamela of Clarksville, MD., and his foster brother and sister-in-law, Wei-qing Feng and Kathy Feng, who reside in Fresh Meadows, NY. Bruce is also survived by his nieces Catherine Baumgardner of Utah and Cameron Baumgardner of Colorado, and his maternal uncle and aunt, George M. Borke and Beverly Harner Borke of The Villages, FL. Born November 8, 1962, in Gettysburg, PA, he was raised in Taneytown, MD. Bruce was a thirty-year resident of Hilton Head Island where he was employed in property management. Bruce was a graduate of Westminster (MD) High School, Mercersburg Academy (classes of 1980), and a graduate of Tulane University (1985). He also earned a Master of Arts degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design, class of 1989. During his prep and high school years, Bruce was an excellent football and lacrosse player, and he continued playing lacrosse at Tulane. Services will be private. Memorials in his name may be sent to the Hilton Head/Bluffton Habitat for Humanity. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
