C. Edward Curfman Jr., 66, of Great Cacapon, W. Va., died Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown after an extended illness.

Born Nov. 23, 1945, near New Windsor, he was the son of the late Claude E. Sr. and M. Kathleen Martin Curfman. He was the husband of Phyllis Blackburn Curfman, his wife of 38 years.

He was a 1965 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Union Bridge; the Union Bridge and New Windsor Volunteer Fire Companies; and past president of the Terra Rubra Lions Club.

He was formerly employed at Steger's Maryland Fresh Eggs, Inc. and the Carroll County Board of Education. The majority of his working career was with the Carroll County Sheriff's Department. Following retirement, he was employed for 10 years as a greeter at Walmart of Westminster and Martinsburg, W.Va.

He enjoyed working with model trains and camping.

He is survived by, in addition to his wife, a brother, Eugene C. Curfman, of Union Bridge; aunts Lettie Cartzendafner, of Taneytown, and Thelma Ecker, of Union Bridge; goddaughter Ilena Blackburn, of Hanover, Pa.; several cousins; two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.

He was predeceased by two sisters, an infant Karen Curfman, and in 2003, Kathy Sue Curfman.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, where Union Bridge and New Windsor Fire Company members will conduct a memorial service at 8:45 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard L. Michael officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Uniontown.
