C. Henry Hughes, 94, of Finksburg, died Friday, October 31, 2014 at Carroll Hospice Dove House. Born September 9, 1920 in Finksburg, he was the son of the late Harry and Elvie Maude Harry Hughes. He was the husband of the late M. Louise Waddell Hughes, who died March 18, 2012. He was a farmer and a tool manufacturer for Black and Decker. Henry was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where he had been extremely active in his earlier years. He enjoyed farming and gardening, traveling and tinkering. Surviving are grandchildren Shawn Hurman and husband Jim of Baltimore, and Gina Hughes of Hampstead; siblings Betty Young and Virginia Beamer of Finksburg, Mary Alice Rosenberger and Annie Hoff of Westminster, Harry Hughes of Pennsylvania, and Evelyn Howard of Manchester; daughter-in-law Cindy Hughes of Finksburg; great grandchildren Emma and Abby Hurman; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son William Henry Hughes in 2012 and by siblings Hilda Miller, Helen Owings and Howard Hughes. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 3939 Gamber Rd. Officiating will be Rev. Douglas Hoffman. Interment will follow in Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 3939 Gamber Rd., Finksburg, MD 21048 or to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
