C. Richard "Dick" Stambaugh, age 69, of Union Bridge, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Carroll Hospital Center. Born August 28, 1946 in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Theodore R. and Mary L. Bohn Stambaugh. He was the husband of Cheryl "Cheri" Stambaugh, his wife of 17 years. Dick was a 1965 graduate of Linganore High School. He served in the U.S. Army, seeing action in Vietnam with the 7th Battalion, 13th Artillery. Following active duty he served twice with the Army Reserves and then the National Guard. He was a life member and past commander of V.F.W. Post 8806 of Union Bridge; also a life member of Amvets Maryland Post 7 of Thurmont, the 7th Battalion 13th Artillery Association and the North American Hunting Club; member of the Glen W. Eyler American Legion Post 282 of Woodsboro, the N.R.A. and the Frederick County Farm Bureau. Dick enjoyed gardening, working outdoors and tinkering in his shop. He was employed as an electrician with Lehigh Cement Co. of Woodsboro for many years and was also a milk truck driver and an independent long-haul truck driver. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Shawn Russo and husband Joseph of Fallston; son, Brett Stambaugh and wife Kathy of Union Bridge; stepson, Doug Glair and wife Julie Dietzel-Glair of Baltlmore; 3 grandchildren, Kandy Parker and husband Nick, Michael and Brandon Russo; great grandson, Dylan Parker; sister, Helen E. Martin of Union Bridge; former spouse, Jackie Stambaugh of Taneytown; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Taco. He was predeceased by a brother, J. Roger Stambaugh and brother-in-law, Charles Martin. A funeral service will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, with Rev. Stan Diehl, pastor of Piney Creek Church of the Brethren, officiating. Military interment will follow in Beaver Dam Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 1235 S.
