Carl Matthews Obituary
Carl Buford Matthews, 76, of Eldersburg, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.
Born Sept. 23, 1936, in Decatur, Ala., he was the son of the late Everett Earl and Mary Allen Matthews. He was the husband of Joan Mary Matthews.
He had served in the Air Force. He had been employed in communications with the U.S. Department of State.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Community in Eldersburg and enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Darren Kenneth Matthews, of Sykesville; a daughter, Trina Gail Matthews, of Laurel; brothers Everett Matthews, of Spring Hill, Fla., and Lannie Matthews, of Grand Junction, Colo.; sisters Barbara Melhorn, of Everett, Wash., and Jewel Terry, of Decatur, Ala.; and grandchildren Christina Estep, of Miami, Fla., and Joshua and Sara Matthews, both of Sykesville.
He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Michael Edwin Ashurst.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg. Interment will be in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills.
