Carl Thomas Strine, Sr. (July 25, 1943 - February 17, 2016) Carl Thomas Strine, Sr. was born on July 25, 1943 in Milton, PA and passed away on February 17, 2016 in Gettysburg, PA. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1963 and served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1967. He graduated from the Army Ordinance School at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL as a MIM-23 HAWK Missile Radar Technician, applying those skills on a tour of duty in Korea. After the Army, Carl established a career as a union pressman at the major Baltimore newspapers from 1967 until his retirement from the Baltimore Sun in 2000. His skill as a pressman overflowed into the home, running the small business Bambi Press & Engraving, making invitations and badges, especially for local CB Club Coffee Breaks. He loved driving and served as a commercial and school bus driver in Carroll County, Maryland, as well as for the Gettysburg Battlefield Tours. He served in Flotilla 13-3 of the Coast Guard Auxiliary from 1970-74 performing search & rescue on the Chesapeake Bay. Carl was also an avid outdoorsman, especially participating in hunting, boating, camping, marksmanship, and was regularly found at the Littlestown Fish and Game Club. Carl is pre-deceased by his parents Sarah Louise Walter and Roy Arthur Strine, and his step-father George Sortino. Carl is survived by his brother George Lester Strine, his wife Anette of Shippensburg, PA; his sisters Gloria Hoedle of Milton, PA; Joanna Haught of Hanover, PA; Kay Beaver of Turbotville, PA; Linda Leiby of Turbotville, PA; and Debra Miller of Milton, PA. He is also survived by his four children and three grandchildren - Carl T. Strine, Jr., his wife Robin of New Windsor, MD; Carla Strine King, her husband James and their daughter Sarah of Finksburg, MD; Michael Joseph Strine, his wife Karen, and their children Rhianon, Michael, and Olivia of Westminster, MD; and Franklin Davis Strine of Hanover, PA. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Crossroads Restoration Church, 21 Sullivan Avenue, Westminster, MD starting at 6pm.
