Carmen Corral Fernandez, 89 of Pikesville, died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Seasons Hospice at Northwest. Born June 16, 1926 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Maria Sierra Corral. She was the beloved wife of the late Alexander Fernandez Sr., devoted mother and grandmother. Carmen was first generation born in the U.S. to Spanish immigrants who settled in Fells Point. She was a member of the first graduating class of Little Flower School. She was a graduate of College of Notre Dame of Maryland and received her Masters degree from Towson University. She had been a dedicated educator since 1957 and was active in the foreign language department with Baltimore County Public Schools. She enjoyed dancing, singing and playing piano. Surviving are son Alexander Fernandez of Arnold, daughters Consuelo (David) Stewart of Ellicott City, and Carmen (Charles) McEvoy of Sykesville, former daughter-in-law Wendy Fernandez, grandchildren Kristin Dana McEvoy, Karl Alexander (Debbie) McEvoy, Sebastian Alexander Stewart, Benjamin David (Gretchen) Stewart, Alexander Fernandez III, Tyler Alexander Fernandez, and Samantha Ann Fernandez, and great grandchildren Hannah Alexis McEvoy, Jasmine Maria Binesar, Hailey Renae McEvoy, Elsie Charlotte Stewart and Sylvie Isabel Stewart. She was predeceased by her brother, Sebastian Jospeh Corral and by her sister, Gloria Corral Fox. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seasons Hospice at Northwest Hospital, 5401 Old Court Rd., Randallstown, MD 21133.
