Caroline Elizabeth Bell Byers, 92, of Westminster, died peacefully surrounded by friends and family at her daughter's home in Norfolk, Va.

Born June 13, 1921, in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late George R. and Mary Wagner Bell. She was the wife of the late Sterling J. Byers, her husband of 58 years.

She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church and was active in its congregation and events until her illness prevented her from being there. She was a charter member and officer in the Venture Club.

Prior to her marriage in 1944, she worked for the Children's Aid Society and National Advertising as a secretary. She was best known in Westminster as the office manager of T. W. Mather and Sons Department Store from 1965 until 1988.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Bonnie Byers Waldrop and William M. Waldrop, of Norfolk, Va.; niece Karen Beard McDonald and husband William, of Manchester; great-nephew Shawn Michael McDonald, of Baltimore; cousins and many friends.

She was predeceased by sisters Jane Beard and Janet Rink; grandmother Kate Wagner; and her cat Jasper.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 21 Carroll St., Westminster, with the Revs. Martha and Kevin Clementson officiating. Interment will follow in St. Benjamins (Kriders) Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Grace Lutheran Church, 21 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157.
