Carolyn Dietz Lyons, beloved sister of Elizabeth Bartenstein and the late Margaret Dietz, died on January 9th. Devoted mother to son Jeffery S. Lyons and his wife Lorene, daughter Amy L. Martin, daughter Carolyn L. Horan and her husband Jeffrey, and Robert H. Lyons and his wife, Teresa. Survived by her much loved grandchildren, Nicholas, Zara, Jeremiah, Sean, Noah, Adrian, Ryan, Kelly, Shannon, and 2 great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Harper. Carolyn was born in Charlotte, NC on June 17th, 1929, lived her fondest childhood memories at the family home/farm, "Fishing Creek", in Leaksville, NC. She received an undergraduate degree in Art Education at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and a Masters in Arts Education at the Maryland Institute of Art. In addition to raising her 4 children with former husband, the late Raymond S. Lyons, Carolyn taught art in the Baltimore, MD area. She also lived and taught in Charlottesville, VA. In the early 1980's she moved to Cairo, Egypt where she taught at the Cairo American College. Carolyn worked as a tutor for Mission Nannies in Great Britain, Mexico, and Croatia later in life, finally settling in Sykesville, Maryland. Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service followed by reception at 1:30 pm on Jan. 24 at the chapel at Fairhaven, 7200 Third Ave., Sykesville, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations suggested to Carroll Hospice Dove House at 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
