Carroll Billy Garland Sr., 73, of Finksburg, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at Long View Nursing Home.

Born May 8, 1940, in Roan Mountain, Tenn., he was the son of the late Simon Lewis and Hattie Ledford Garland. He was the husband of Beverly Mae Keefer Garland, his wife of 49 years.

He was an Army veteran serving from 1961 until 1964 during the Cuban Missle Crisis and in Germany.

He was the owner of Carroll Garland Paving Inc. He enjoyed his work, especially working on churches and buildings. He also enjoyed camping and fishing.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Carroll "Billy" Garland Jr. and wife Nikole, of Finksburg, Verna Gall and husband Bruce, of North Carolina, Sharon Hahn and husband Charles, of Manchester, and Joyce Carver, of Westminster; sisters Mabel Nolte and Mary Slick, both of Westminster; a brother Gene Garland, of Westminster; and seven grandchildren.

He was predeceased by four siblings.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with his pastor, the Rev. Gary "Pete" Puckett, of Hilltop Assembly of God Church, officiating. Interment will be at Garrison Forest Veteran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Long View Nursing Home, 3332 Main St., Manchester, MD 21102; or to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
