Carroll Thomas McCourt, 83, of Frederick County, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Carroll Hospice Dove House, following an extended illness.

Born July 29, 1930, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Leo T. and Margaret Huber McCourt. He was the husband of Lucia Anastasio McCourt, his wife of 59 years.

He was a graduate of Loyola High School and Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was employed as president of Automation Industrial Controls. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Thurmont.

He enjoyed golfing, farming, and playing the piano, keyboard and organ.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children and spouses Patrick G. and the Rev. Shari McCourt, of Finksburg, Susan C. McCourt, of Buckeystown, David J. and Diane M. McCourt, and Joseph T. and Tammy R. McCourt, all of Hampstead; grandchildren Jennifer Lynn Mohning, Nicholas W. McCourt, Thomas M. McCourt, Paul A. McCourt and Theresa M. McCourt; a great-granddaughter, Layla Mohning; and a sister, Ellen Meehan, of Colorado.

He was predeceased by sisters Kathleen Pugh and Margaret Roche.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Shrine, 16150 St. Anthony Road, Emmitsburg, with the Rev. Larry Donohoo as celebrant. Interment will be immediately following in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Emmitsburg.
