Cassandra Paige Smith, 44, of Taneytown, passed away suddenly Friday October 7, 2016 at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville. Born February 29, 1972 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Bruce Shifflett, Sr. of Hedgesville, WV and Patricia Cammarata Patrick of Hampstead. She was the wife of Charles E. Smith. She was a graduate of Archbishop Spaulding High School and earned her bachelor degree from the University of Maryland. She was employed as a laboratory manager with Smithers-Avenza in Gaithersburg. She was a communicant of St. John Catholic Church in Westminster. She enjoyed spending time with her family and celebrating all of the holidays with her loved ones. Surviving, in addition to her parents and husband are her son, David B. Smith and daughter, Kathryn P. Smith, both of Taneytown; brothers, Bruce Shifflett, Jr. of Cecilton and Jacob Shifflett of Hedgesville; stepmother, Melissa Shifflett of Hedgesville; stepfather, James Patrick of Hampstead; and parents-in-law, Edward and Linda Smith of Westminster. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Eline Funeral Home, 934 South Main Street, Hampstead. A memorial mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, October 13 at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe Street, Westminster with the Rev. Mark Bialek as celebrant. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Campaign, c/o University of Maryland Medical System Foundation, 110 South Paca Street, 9th Floor, Baltimore, MD 21201.
