Mrs. Catherine Ann Cruickshank, 72, of Union Bridge, passed away on September 28, 2014. She was the loving wife of Mr. Stephen Richard Ater. Born June 12, 1942 in Glen Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late James Auld Cruickshank and Muriel Helen Winchip Cruickshank, and sister of the late Ian Auld Cruickshank. Christmas was every day and her favorite color was plaid. She was full of love and joy and life. That unmistakable twinkle in her eye and her resonating laughter. All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small; all things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all. Such lessons she imparted: to appreciate tiny petals, vibrant hues, sweet bird song and enchanting firefly flickers. Heaven's Wecome Home is likely delayed as she is still chatting at the pearly gates with St. Peter and has him in stitches. Her loss is overwhelming, but her legacy and the lives she touched and changed and created and nurtured are immeasurable. In addition to her beloved husband, Mrs. Cruickshank is survived by four children, Alexander James Cruickshank, Deirdre Amaris Cruickshank Viriassov, Muriel Elyse Cruickshank, and Ian McIntosh Cruickshank; and six grandchildren, Colin, Caroline, Liam, Helena, Aleksandr, and Abigail. She was Mopsy to many both grown up and little, including: Sean and Austin; Josh and Spencer, Ted, John and Aidan; and so many others she has hugged and loved over the years. Services will be held graveside at 11am on Saturday, October 4, 2014, in the Garden of Memory at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick. Floral tributes are welcome, or donations may be made to your local Salvation Army or SPCA.
