Catherine L. Hart, 97, of Westminster, MD passed away on December 19, 2015, at the Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center. She was born on February 2, 1918 in Sykesville, Maryland, the daughter of the late Robert E. Stansfield, Sr. and Della (Amoss) Stansfield. She was the twin of the late Robert E. Stansfield, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Richard E. Hart. Catherine is survived by daughter May Lang of San Antonio, Texas, daughter Rev. Laura Robeson and husband Dwight of Thurmont, Maryland, grandson Michael Kernan and wife Kacy, granddaughter Kelly Sauer and husband Michael, granddaughter Sarah Robeson, grandson Andrew Robeson and wife Jenny. Great-grandchildren are Jordyn, Sadie, and Eli Robeson, and Harrison and Atticus Sauer. Living on a farm in Howard County gave Catherine a willing, working, and spirited personality. She graduated from Sykesville High School in 1936. Catherine learned to be a practical nurse at the Sykesville Springfield State Hospital. She then worked at the Franklin Sanitorium in Baltimore. She met her future husband, the late Richard Hart in 1938 at a community dance. They were married in 1940. During World War II Richard joined the Navy, and Catherine learned to deal with being a Navy wife. After the war, they returned to Baltimore, where she worked at Black and Decker as a machinist for 20 years. In 1966 Catherine and Richard moved to Westminster, Maryland. Catherine enjoyed traveling with Richard. With their young family, they took car trips throughout much of the United States. After the girls grew up, Catherine and Richard made several trips overseas and continued to travel using an Airstream trailer. Catherine continued to travel to such places as New England, Europe, and the Panama Canal after Richard's death in 1978. She camped with the Good Sam's Club and the "Retreads", a group of retired campers, well into her 80's. Catherine was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Westminster, Maryland. She also faithfully attended the AARP monthly meetings. Moving to Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster in 1993 allowed Catherine to continue to be active where she proudly participated in the quilters group. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on January 16, 2016 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 17 Bond Street, Westminster, MD. A luncheon reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's UCC, 17 Bond Street, Westminster.
