Charles Edward "Bud Lite" Burkhart, joined our Risen Lord, Sunday, August 7th. He was 85. Bud was born in Waynesboro, PA on September 15, 1930. His family moved to Pittsburgh, PA in the mid 1930's where he attended elementary through high school. He played many sports in his early life, tennis, basketball, football and golf. He also played in one of the largest high school marching bands in the county, where he was known for threatening to goose the majorettes with his trombone. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1950 and served in Korea for three years maintaining radar equipment before being honorably discharged in 1953. After the war, Bud moved to Washington DC in to start his 30 year computer maintenance career at the National Security Agency. His good looks and winning personality made him a popular guy with the women, but he only ever had eyes for his wife of 49 years, Jane Elizabeth (Pfohl), who he met on a blind date in 1960. They were married in Riverdale, Maryland on March 16, 1963. Bud was a long time member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lochearn, MD and Faith Lutheran Church in Eldersburg, MD. There he served in a variety of ways as Elder, Stewardship Chairman, trained ushers, accolytes, altar guild volunteers and teased a decade of church secretaries. He was president of the South Carroll Senior Center for a number of years and spent time gathering and delivering bread to Westminster's Shepherds Table along with a myriad of other volunteer activities. Following the death of his beloved, Jane, Bud moved in with his daughter and son-in-law where he lived happy and comfortably for the remainder of his life. His children and grandchildren enjoyed this special time learning many things about him along with sharing a lot of "I love yous". It took many women to fill Jane's shoes. His caretakers, Janell Halsey, Kristen Marinelli, Sonny Stillwell and Angie Grella, affectionately known as "Bud's Babes", filled his days with laughter, visits to the duck pond and trips to Wendy's for ice cream. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, David and Catherine (Mutzabaugh) Burkhart, his sister Margaret Louise Lloyd and the love of his life, his wife, Jane Elizabeth (Pfohl). He is survived by his children David Burkhart of Lusby, Cathey McGee and husband Walter of New Windsor, Charley, Jr. of Walkersville, Bob and wife Jill of San Jose, CA, Matt and wife Melissa of Frederick; daughter-in-law Carole Burkhart; grandchildren Timothy, Luke, Kaitlin, Kayla, Jessica, Ella, Owen and Ethan Burkhart. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 4-8pm at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 4pm at Faith Lutheran Church, 1700 St. Andrews Way, Eldersburg, MD 21784. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 12:00 PM at Burns Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro, PA.
