Charles David "Chub" Roop, 89, of Westminster MD., died May 1st of natural causes at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taneytown MD. Born December 12th,1925 in Frederick Co. MD., he was the son of the late Preston and Nettie Brown Roop. He was the husband of the late Mary Virginia Roop, who died December 8th, 2013. They had been married 63 years. He attended New Windsor High School and graduated from the Reppert School of Auctioneering in Indiana in 1949. He had a 50 year career as an auctioneer working with various auto auctions from Massachusetts to Virginia, as well as holding many local public homeowner and farm sales. He was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baust United Church of Christ,1955 president of the New Windsor Lions Club, lifetime member of the Westminster Elks, and helped to form the Lehigh Riders Club in the 1950's. In 2002, the National Auto Auction Association honored him with the Bernie Hart Auctioneer of the Year award. He is survived by a son, Philip B. Roop and wife Kelli of New Windsor, daughter Jan B. Corbin and husband Ron of Taneytown, daughter-in-law Debbie Roop of Westminster, grandson Nathan Roop of Norfolk VA., granddaughter Adeline Roop of New Windsor, sister Doris Wege of Frederick, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Wade Roop, sisters Evelyn Miller, Julia Cairns, Kitty Obermiller, Irene Roop, Esther Hough, and brothers John Roop and Louis Roop. At his request, his body was donated to the State Anatomy Board for medical education and research. The Roop family would like to thank the entire staff at Lorien Taneytown for their care of Chub and Mary during their time spent there. A memorial service will be held Saturday May 9th at 11:00 at Emmanuel Baust United Church of Christ, 2950 Old Taneytown Rd., Westminster MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charities of one's choice.
